migration of scenarios/boxes to 0.18.0

Post by barten6 »

Hi,
I have installed 0.18.0 and I'm amazed by the ease of Installation.
now, there is a couple of boxes which replace the ones of the former Version, (Signal Display and others).
is there a way to batch-update boxes in a scenario , transferring the Settings ?
thanks in advance
Peter

Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to update boxes for now.

A box needs update if its prototype changes, meaning if the in/output and/or the settings changes.
If only the in/outputs changes, you can save your box settings (using the save button in the configuration dialog). Then you delete the old box and add the new one and use the load button in the configuration dialog to load the settings.
If the settings changed, you'll need to reconfigure the new box. But since the configuration file syntax is pretty straightforward and that we usually add new setting after existing ones, you can still save the old box settings and then edit the file manually before reloading it in the new box.

In either case, you will have to reconnect the box in/outputs which can be a little tedious unfortunately.

Loic

In a future version we might rework the code to allow more automatic updating, but it would need rewriting some of the box/kernel interaction. We'd likely need to change all of the existing boxes, and the change would potentially break third-party boxes not in the main OpenViBE distribution. For these reasons the task hasn't been undertaken yet.
