Update for Supported Architectures?

Post by jayseye »

Hello - Is there any updated information available about supported Linux distributions? The versions listed for Ubuntu and Fedora are outdated at: http://openvibe.inria.fr/supported-architectures/

Thank you.

Hello

The supported versions of Linux are always:
- the last two Fedora distributions at the time of the last release
- the last LTS version of Ubuntu at the time of the last release (currently Ubuntu 12.04)
- the last non-lts version of Ubuntu at the time of the last release (currently Ubuntu 11.10)

Note that OpenViBE should work without problems requiring more than minor tweaks to the dependency installation script on older versions of Ubuntu and Fedora as well.

Thanks for the heads up as for the information on the page, I will update it accordingly.

For your information, the next release will officially support Ubuntu 12.10, 12.04 and fedora 17 and 16.

Regards
Jozef

Thank you for the reply, Jozef. Actually I'm interested in support for newer / beta versions of Linux, such as the upcoming Fedora 18. Also would like to discuss usage on platforms outside the officially supported ones, such as Slackware 14, and FreeBSD. Is there an appropriate sub-forum or mailing list for that?

Hi jayseye,

I have moved this conversation to the subforum about building OpenViBE.

Considering other than supported architectures:

Most of the time the compatibility of OpenViBE depends solely on the compatibility of its dependencies. Sometimes minor tweaks to the code are necessary with different versions of GCC. We can only provide real effective support on platforms we actually have physically, for others we have to rely on the community. If you manage to build OpenViBE on a different platform, and more importantly create a script which install the dependencies automatically then we would very much like to mention this on the supported platforms page.

For example compilation on Arch Linux was discussed in this post: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=625

The way to create installer on a new distribution is discussed in this Yann's blog post: http://stickyvibe.tuxfamily.org/blog/?p=789

Cheers
Jozef
